1. Read or view “The Colors of Us,” by Karen Katz
2. Lena has many different names to describe the tones of skin color she sees, such as cinnamon, chocolate, honey, coffee, toffee, and butterscotch. Can you tell me more about these different colors? What color is chocolate? What about honey?
3. Begin by mixing flour, the salt and slowy ad water, make sure the dough is not too hot to knead. Separate in 4 or more dough balls.
4. While the dough is still warm, add your spice until integrated. If the dough sticks to your fingers, you can always add more salt.
5. Take a look at your skin tone, which colors do you think you should mix to make your portrait?
Once you think it resembles your sink tone, have fun by adding seeds, herbs or flowers and create your portrait.
6. Bake in the oven at its lowest setting. It can take up to 3 hours. If you want to use your portraits as decorations, make sure to poke a hole before you bake.
7. Once your portraits have cooled down, you can glue or paint some more!
